The Los Amigos area is one of the most beautiful with two oxbow lakes and the largest body of water protected by a private company. Here you can find species from the endangered Giant River Otter living on the oxbow lakes, up to ten species of monkey dominating the forests and filling the skies are the colorful macaws, parrots and many other birds species. The lakes are surrounded by mature rainforest which makes the area highly diverse. On hikes we can visit two kind of forest terrain, flood plain forest and terra firme which are home to a different types wildlife
This makes it a good choice for a few days visit to the rainforest, especially for birders as this place has one of the highest birds record seen in a single day, but also for tourists in general to enjoy this is an extraordinary place. We include night walks for who are interested

Puerto Maldonado to Los Amigos. Our staff will welcome you at the airport in Puerto Maldonado and drive you along the interoceanic highway towards Cusco for about 50 km to reach the boat dock of Laberinto Village on the Madre de Dios River. Here we will board a motorized canoe and head upstream for 3 hours. Along the river we will see the gold mining activity in the area and some wildlife, but once past that and nearing the Lodge we will begin to see the rainforests true wild side revealed. On arrival we should have time to explore and spot some of the wildlife that live around the lodge giving you your first introduction to nature and to this protected area. Hot showers are available at this lodge. L & D Included
We will spend our days exploring in the forest to see it’s great flora, trees such as Brazil Nut and Kapok, the two largest trees in the area. We will visit two types of forest flood plain and terra firme a habitat combination that makes for great wildlife viewing opportunities. We will also take time to explore the lake by paddle boat, motors are prohibited on the lake as they scare the wildlife and it masks the sound of the rainforest and we wouldn’t want to miss a chance to encounter the endangered Giant River Otter. Enjoy the tranquility of paddling through the lake surrounded by nature.
We have great opportunities to see otters, as well as a monkeys, other mammals, reptiles and strange and colorful insects of the rainforest, B, L & D included
Next we will have an early start to visit and keep exploring the wildlife of the extensive trail systems, choosing the trails we know to search to give the best chances of finding different rainforest animals. This amazing place never disappoints us with its beauty and diversity, B, L & D included
Today we will head back to Puerto Maldonado, to your hotel or the airport, but on the way out we will enjoy the sight, sounds and humid aroma that is uniquely the amazon rainforest !!!! Breakfast only included.
At customers request is the option to visit a macaw clay lick. This extension is added after our visit to Los Amigos. On return to Laberinto village we will go straight on to Tambopata river, driving a dirt road for about 20 km (40 minutes) followed by 15 minutes by boat to get to a lodge on Tambopata river from where we can visit the world famous Chuncho Clay Lick. (1-2 day extension)
Monkeys ! Red Howler Monkey, Large-Headed Capuchin, White-Bellied Pygmy Marmoset, Bearded Emperor Tamarin, Black Spider Monkey, Tschudi’s Woolly Monkey, Gray’s Bald-Faced Saki Monkey, Black-Headed Night Monkey, Weddell’s Saddle-Back Tamarin, Bolivian Black-Capped Squirrel Monkey, Toppin’s Titi Monkey, Shock-Headed Capuchin. Other Mammals Tapir, Capybara, Giant River Otter, Tyra, Brow Agouti, Red Brocket Deer, Bicolored-spined Porcupine, Sloth, South American Coati, Southern Tamandua, Armadillo, and maybe some felines, like Jaguar or Ocelot.
Some Birds White Throated Toucan, Emerald Toucanet, Amazon Kingfisher, Red-Necked Woodpecker, Blue-Crown Trogon, Paradise Tanager, Blue-Crowned Motmot, Yellow-Tufted Woodpecker, Red-Capped Cardinal, Horned Screamer, Hoatzin, Capped Heron, Wattled Jacana, King Vulture, plus many others, about 620 birds species, in total are registered here !
